Master Spas Partners with NAZ Children's Centre in Jamaica to Create a New, Mixed-Ability High School

Fort Wayne, Ind. - January 15, 2018

Thanks to the support of Master Spas, a leading, U.S.-based manufacturer of hot tubs and swim spas, a new, mixed-ability high school in Jamaica broke ground earlier this month on the campus of the existing NAZ Children's Centre elementary school. After playing an instrumental role in the opening of the NAZ Children's Centre campus back in 2013, Master Spas and its dealers continue their support through funding much of the new building, as well as creating a scholarship fund for incoming high school students.

Breaking ground for the new NAZ school construction

The idea for the high school stemmed from the success and growth of the elementary school; hearing graduating NAZ students' and their parents' concerns about the limitations of the existing high school options in Jamaica prompted the discussion about a high school that would cater to the needs of graduating students.

When the plans for the new high school were announced, parents of NAZ students called the school "an answered prayer," as it will offer the same inclusive, mixed-ability classroom environment found at the elementary school. In addition, NAZ High School will maintain an extremely low student-to-teacher ratio of 10 to 12 students per teacher, compared to the area's average ratio of 50 to 60 students per teacher. This low ratio allows teachers to develop a strong relationship with every child and tailor lessons to build on the unique strengths of each individual.

Master Spas, along with the support of its worldwide dealer body, donated much of the funds required to construct the new building, which will be located on the same campus as the state-of-the-art elementary school. With the goal of ensuring no child is denied a quality education due to financial limitations, Master Spas is also in the process of establishing a 501(c)(3) student scholarship fund. "'Thank you' is not enough. I'm humbled by the continued support and generosity of the Master Spas family," said Alixann Narcisse-Campbell, Founder and Director of NAZ Children's Centre. As a permanent reminder of the people who have invested in the futures of the children attending NAZ, a "Wall of Angels" containing the names of donors is being added to the new building.

"So much has been accomplished for NAZ students in just a few short years. From the opening of one incredible school, to the development of a second facility, it is truly amazing what Master Spas has been able to be a part of," said Bob Lauter, CEO of Master Spas. "Knowing these children will have a high school option because of our involvement is really rewarding."
