FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Master Spas, the world’s largest swim spa manufacturer, is excited to announce its new partnership with Paralympian Josh Sweeney.
Sweeney, who grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, joined the Marine Corps after high school and served as a Scout Sniper in Afghanistan. In 2009, he sustained life-changing injuries from an improvised explosive device, resulting in the loss of both legs above the knee. Sport soon became an essential part of his recovery, giving him a renewed purpose.
A gold medalist in sled hockey, he is now training for the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games in Italy and the 2028 Summer Paralympic Games in Los Angeles using an H2X Challenger 15D Swim Spa by Master Spas.
“This partnership is huge for me,” Sweeney said. “I never would have imagined that Master Spas would be working with me as we head into the 2026 Paralympic Games and looking forward to the 2028 Games. It’s giving me the confidence — and the tools — I need to succeed.”
After leading Team USA to gold in sled hockey at the 2014 Paralympic Games, Sweeney turned his focus to Nordic skiing and biathlon, competing at the 2022 Paralympics in Beijing. Now, as he trains for paratriathlon, swimming has become central to his year-round program.
“Having the Challenger 15D in my backyard has been amazing,” Sweeney said. “I can jump in for a 30-minute swim whenever I want — no driving, no scheduling, no stress. It saves me time and keeps me consistent, and my family loves it, too.”
The H2X Challenger 15D features a smooth, airless water current designed to mimic open water swimming. For Sweeney, it allows him to train efficiently and recover effectively — all while sharing the experience with his family.
“Josh’s journey shows how sport can transform lives. It challenges us, motivates us, and reminds us what’s possible,” said Kevin Richards, President of Master Spas. “We’re proud to support his training and to be part of what’s next.”
