How to Eliminate Hot Tub Chlorine Odor

Quick Tip 101 eliminating that potent chlorine odor.

Does your spa water smell strongly of chlorine? While it might seem like a good thing, it might mean that your hot tub water is not balanced.

There are two common sources for the strong chlorine odor in a hot tub: excessive chlorine in the water or a low pH level. To fix the issue, you will need a non-chlorine oxidizer or pH Up or pH Down.

First, use a test strip to check the water chemistry. If the total chlorine is high, use the oxidizer. If the pH is out of range, use the appropriate product.

Pro tip: Turn on the jets and sprinkle the product evenly over the surface of the water. Allow 30 to 60 minutes for the product to do its job before retesting the water.
